Free Education

Free education for poor students in the North-East of Sri Lanka.

இலங்கையின் வடகிழக்கு பகுதியிலுள்ள ஏழை மாணவர்களுக்கு இலவசக் கல்வி திட்டம்.

Academic Struggles (Struggling Student):

  • Poor Performance: Difficulty understanding material, low test scores, incomplete assignments, slow progress.
  • Lack of Skills: May have poor study habits or motivation.
  • Needs Support: Requires extra attention to catch up with peers, often labeled as a “slow learner”.

Financial Hardship (Low-Income Student):

  • Financial Barriers: Lacks money for books, technology (computer), or even basic needs like food and housing, forcing them to work.
  • Socioeconomic Disadvantage: Comes from a family with little income, facing systemic hurdles.
  • “Doubly Disadvantaged”: Students from under-resourced schools in elite settings face both financial and cultural gaps.
  • 13-Year Guaranteed Education: Programs like the 13YGEP aim to keep students in school longer by offering practical skills, reducing dropouts.

Challenges in the North & East

  • Teacher Shortages: Skilled teachers are often reluctant to work in rural areas due to inadequate amenities.
  • Economic Hardship: Poverty remains a significant barrier, making it hard for families to afford even incidental school costs.
